"This is the story of the sinking of the Empress of Ireland told as a historical novel through the life of a young woman by the name of Grace who was accompanying her father on the voyage. Here is a difficult genre to create, but Stephen Pavey does a masterful job. The character development of Grace as well as those whom she encounters in this tragic journey is well done, and no historical facts were sacrificed in the telling of this story...The author has written a story of intrigue and mystery involving Grace and others on board, and mystery lovers will find that they are moved along by the story line...I am pleased to recommend this novel, and know that all who read it will be both intrigued and inspired."

My students were always so excited to find out what was going to happen to Marty next. They also really loved taking turns reading to the whole class. A fun project they enjoyed was to design their very own skateboard. My students enjoyed listening and creating at the same time. Great read and a great message!
